Reap What You Sow

Nelson and Sons Farm uses a variety of regenerative and sustainable practices, including:

Reducing fertilizer waste
Applying only what crops need—at the right time and in the right place—to cut costs, reduce runoff, and protect the environment.

Protecting local waterways
Using grass buffers, proper drainage, and careful chemical management to prevent pollutants from entering rivers, streams, and ponds.

Planting cover crops
Growing plants like clover or rye between main crops to protect soil, prevent erosion, and return nutrients to the ground.

Using minimum tillage practices
Disturbing the soil as little as possible to maintain soil structure, protect beneficial organisms, and reduce erosion.

Practicing crop rotation
Changing the type of crop grown each season to improve soil fertility, reduce pest pressure, and minimize disease.

Monitoring soil health
Regularly testing for nutrients, organic matter, pH, and moisture to guide better farming decisions and support long-term productivity.

“Even if we gave you the address, you wouldn’t be able to find it on the GPS.”

– Adrian Nelson

The Nelson and Sons Farm spans more than 100 miles across rural Louisiana. Much of the land sits deep in the countryside, where the Mississippi Delta’s nutrient-rich soil—shaped by centuries of river sediment—supports diverse and abundant crop growth.
